Our Journey in 2014

We wanted the Southern part of Africa to be the first section of our trip around the world. Our journey began in South Africa, because shipping the vehicle to Port Elizabeth was the most reasonable option.

In the Tsitsikamma NP we enjoyed the wind and the waves and we slowly arrived mentally in Africa. …

From the 30th of May till the 11th of August we travelled along the western part of South Africa at a low pace from Port Elizabeth in the south to Musina in the north. Here you will find our travel blogs describing the various sections in more detail (but unfortunately in German only):

Route Südafrika 2015-16

We are on our journey southwards from the Equator to the Cape. Beginning of December we are entering South Africa. 

  • Makhado  (Louis Trichardt) / Tvakanaka Exclusive Camping
  • Visiting the wood carver Thomas Kubayi
  • Visiting of the art gallery of the Madi a Thavha Lodge / Camping  

How did we like it?

+ good touristic infrastructure and at the same time one came escape mass tourism relatively easily; the province KwaZulu Natal has a special charm, especially the Drakensberge

+ diverse and impressive landscape from the coast to the mountains

+ the Krüger NP is unique in its effort to provide access to nature in a big stretch of land and at the same time to preserve it. …

  • area: 1.219.000 qkm (D: 357.000 qkm)
    thereof arable: 9,87 % (D: 33 %)
  • inhabitants: 48.6 Mio (D: 81 Mio)
  • life expectation: 49,4 years, this is place 220 out of 222 on a worldwide basis, very sad! (D: 80,2 years). Life expectation went down by 10 years during the last 10 years with HIV/Aids being the only reason for this. …
